Research

The International Center for Aggregates Research (ICAR) is the voice of the U.S. aggregates industry in the research community.

The Nottingham Asphalt Research Consortium is a research-led collaboration between the Universities of Nottingham, Cambridge and Edinburgh and organisations in the asphalt and related industries.

The Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) is a research, technology transfer, and education center. There is extensive coverage of research projects including the Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF).

The Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program is a 20-year study of inservice pavements across North America. Its goal is to extend the life of highway pavements through various designs of new and rehabilitated pavement structures, using different materials and under different loads, environments, subgrade soil and maintenance practices. LTPP was established under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), and is now managed by the Federal Highway Adminstration (FHWA).

WesTrack is an experimental road test facility constructed in Nevada. The project uses driverless vehicle technology and has two primary objectives:

  1. To continue development of performance-related specifications (PRS) for hot-mix asphalt construction.
  2. To provide early verification of the SHRP SUPERPAVE Level III mix design procedures.

ARRB Transport Research is a leading Australian provider of value added technology and research services addressing land transport problems. They undertake a considerable amount of work in pavement research.

Pavement Research Center (University of California at Berkeley). The center formerly known as "Asphalt Research Program" has been renamed the Pavement Research Center to reflect the broader scope of research and new activity at the facility. The center has been designated as the site of the Pacific Coast SHRP Superpave Facility and offers courses in SHRP Superpave technology and procedures.

The Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) is U.S.A.'s leading transportation facility. Under the auspices of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the center provides the research and development to improve the national highway system. A major project is the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program. LTPP is a 20-year program that monitors pavement performance and helps engineers to design new roadways as well as rehabilitate older ones.
